Abstract
Plotosus lineatus is the most common venomous catfish in the South east coast of India, which is a customary threat to fisherman. Earlier, numerous researches have been focused on skin mucus due to the lytic activity, whereas the spine venom which acts as a defensive mechanism to potential predators and primary cause of severe envenomation in humans has not been fully elucidated. Thus, our present study was conducted to investigate the enzymatic potential of catfish P. lineatus spine venom (Sp-Vn). The findings of the research implied that spine venom have spectrum of enzyme activities that are responsible for the enhancement of envenomation. We speculate that these toxins are well organized and possess a wide array of activity and for the first time reported the biochemical effects of spine venom added to their potential cytotoxicity activity against HEp2 cells
