Summary

The case histories of two patients with lymphoid interstitial pneumonia (LIP) are presented. In one of those patients a malignant lymphoma was diagnosed. The discussion deals with the most important characteristics of LIP and particularly emphasizes the difficulties in differential diagnosis. Lymphocytic interstitial infiltration is best considered as a prelymphomatous status and is frequently associated with other features of immune dysregulation.
