Summary

The clinical and bacteriological observation of a 52 year old man with pneumococcal endocarditis is presented. Two successive surgical interventions combined with appropriate antibiotic treatment cured our patient. The pathogenesis of pneumococcal infection and the problems involved in bacteriological diagnosis are discussed.
