ABSTRACT

In the last 30 years, academic textual genres have been selected and classified according to several criteria; this includes their area of circulation, the previous experience of authors and readers and their relevance in the academic community to name a few. Empirical evidence shows that the macro and micro linguistic differences that exist between them on the level of grammar and discursive pragmatics can also lead to their categorisation. These differential features, such as the different ways of structuring the discourse, of citing, of placing titles, of glossing or exemplifying, seem to correlate with the culture of the university from which they originate. The aim of the current research is to present a complete review of the textual features that have been studied in the recent past for academic languages, focusing on the textual production of non-native students of Spanish.
