1 Ujjawala is a comprehensive scheme to combat trafficking. The five main components of the scheme are – Prevention, Rescue, Rehabilitation, Re-integration, and Repatriation of trafficked victims for commercial sexual exploitation. (Ministry of Women and Child Development, [MWCD], Government of India [GoI] & United Nations Office on Drug and Crime [UNODC], Citation2008).
2 Swadhar is a scheme to provide food, clothing, and care to women in difficult circumstances and aid in their social and economic rehabilitation (ibid).
3 Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) (Mission education for All’) is a flagship program of the Government of India to achieve elementary education for all by providing free and compulsory education to children between 6–14 years of age (Begum, Citation2014).
