Future technology could allow amputees to perceive the temperature of objects held in their phantom hands, e.g., to feel the warmth of the coffee cup they are drinking. This issue of the journal Temperature is opened by the Discovery Article by Solaiman Shokur and Silvestro Micera, who have proposed a noninvasive technology to restore thermal sensations in upper limb amputees.
