Polymeric haloplumbates(II) templated by ethoxycarbonylmethyl viologen: Structure and enchanced thermochromism behavior

ABSTRACT

A new lead iodide/organic hybrid, {[(AeV)(PbI3)2]·(DMF)2}n (1) (AeV2+ = N, N'- bis(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)-4,4′-bipyridinium) has been synthesized using solution method and structurally determined by X-ray diffraction method. In 1, the (PbI3)nn− chain is constructed from face-sharing of PbI6 octahedra templated by a new viologen AeV2+. C-H…O and C-H···I hydrogen bonds contribute to the structural extending from 1-D chain to 3-D network. Its absorption spectrum was investigated, and the energy band gap of 2.07 eV indicates its potential semiconductor nature. 1 displays an enchanced thermochromism behavior with a phase transition temperature of 70°C.
