Rice husk based MCM-41 nanoparticles loaded with Ag2S nanostructures by a green and room temperature method and its antimicrobial property

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we chose rice husk ash as raw material and synthesized successfully mesoporous MCM-41 nanoparticles loaded with silver sulfide nanoparticles by green, simple and cost-effective method. The synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The morphologies and sizes were characterized by SEM and TEM. The Ag2S nanoparticles were spherical in shape with an effective diameter size of 14 nm. The antibacterial properties of nanocomposite were evaluated against Gram-negative (E. coli) and Gram-positive (S. aureus). The diameters of the inhibition zone, which was obtained by the agar disc diffusion for microorganisms S. aureus and E. coli were about 11 mm.
