Cationic surfactant mediated room temperature synthesis and characterization of ZnO nanoparticles

Pages 81-84 | Received 30 May 2017, Accepted 26 Aug 2017, Published online: 29 Dec 2017

ABSTRACT

ZnO nanoparticles of size 25–50 nm were synthesized by sol-gel method in presence of cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB) in room temperature. Reactions were studied by changing zinc precursor to surfactant ratio. Particle size, morphology and structure of the ZnO nanoparticles were determined by powder x-ray diffraction technique (xrd) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Elemental composition was determined by EDX. The average grain size was calculated using Scherrer's formula was found to be 25–50 nm.
