Abtract

Two novel coordination complexes containing dimeric rare earth units, {[La2(mpda)3 (H2O)2](H2O)3}n (1) and {[Pr2(mpda)3(H2O)2](H2O)3}n (2) (H2mpda = 5-methylpyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid) have been obtained via self-assembly of a novel ligand H2mpda with the corresponding rare earth salts by hydrothermal technique. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis show that 1 and 2 are isostructures and crystallize in the triclinic system with the P-1 space group. Both complexes are built up from two different rare earth dimmers connected by mpda2− ligands via three different coordination modes leading to a two-dimensional (2D) layer.
