Abstract

In this research work, we reported the impact of changes of alga Parachlorella kessleri (P. kessleri) composition on silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesis. P. kessleri (sample A) and three extracts prepared by different methods (heat treatment (extract C), centrifugation (extract D) and combination of methods (B)) were used for AgNPs synthesis. Synthesized AgNPs were analyzed by UV-vis, FTIR, TEM, SEM and EDX analysis. UV-vis confirmed that AgNPs were synthesized by all extracts but amount of nanoparticles, size and stability differed depending on the extract type. FTIR analysis showed that treatment of extract influenced the presence and amount of the functional groups. We also suggested the functional groups responsible for reduction of Ag+ to Ag0 and for nanoparticles stabilization. All synthesized AgNPs have antibiofilm capability which depends not only on extract type but also on NPs size and amount, apparently factors such gradual release of ions and aggregation also influence antibiofilm activity.
