Synthesis, characterization and applications of endophytic fungal nanoparticles

Abstract

Green nanotechnology, uses the extract of plants, microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi and its bioactive compounds for the synthesis of nanoparticles. This research work was focused on synthesis of Endophytic fungal silver nanoparticles (EFNps) from endophytic fungi Lasiodiplodia theobromae isolated from Cinnamomum zeylanicum. The aqueous extract of the endophytic fungi was used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles and characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FT-IR spectroscopy, FESEM, Zeta Potential analysis and Particle size analysis (PSA). In order to validate the efficacy of EFNps, antimicrobial assay such as agar well diffusion method, Time kill curve, Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), Minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), antibiofilm assays and pyocyanin assay were performed against P.aeruginosa ATCC (27853) and antibiotic resistant clinical strain. It was evident from the current study that EFNps could be the potential alternative to antibiotics to treat the infections caused by P. aeruginosa.
