Abstract

A new heterometallic tetranuclear complex [Cd2Tb2L4(CH3COO)2(DMF)2] was prepared from the Schiff base 5-chloro-2-(3-ethoxy-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)phenol (H2L). The complex was characterized by IR and UV–vis spectra, as well as single crystal X-ray determination. The Cd atoms are in octahedral coordination with O5N donor set, and the Tb atoms are in square-antiprismatic coordination with O7N donor set. The Cd and Tb atoms are bridged by phenolate oxygen and acetate groups. The Schiff base and the complex showed good antibacterial activities against the bacteria Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhi.
