Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyse free throw shooting in eliminatory games, considering the variables that influence their effectiveness. The sample consisted of 1576 free throws shooting (38.4 ± 12.9), corresponding to 41 eliminatory games in ACB, Euroleague, Olympic Games and NCAA championships. A reliability analysis of the observation of free throws shooting was carried out. The dependent variable was the effectiveness in free throws shooting and the independent variables were: level, player positioning, gender, period, quarter, minute of the game, effectiveness percentage, situation in the scoreboard and points of difference in the scoreboard. There was found a statistically significant relationship between the effectiveness variable with level, gender and player positioning. In the sample analysed, the players in the NCAA, women and guards have a higher success. Also, it has been detected relationships among independent variables.
