Synthesis, characterization, wettability study and thermal behaviour of aromatic polyimides containing tetraphenylthiophene-quinoxaline unit.

ABSTRACT

A new series of aromatic polyimides were synthesised by solution polycondensation of diamine monomer with different dianhydrides via the conventional two-step method. On comparison with tetraphenyl components related previous reports, synthesized polyimides containing heterocyclic tetraphenylthiophene-quinoxaline unit showed outstanding thermal properties. Synthesized polyimides showed high glass transition temperatures between 244–274°C. The structure-property correlations among these polyimides were also studied. Also, these polyimides were displayed excellent hydrophilicity except PI-V with the contact angles in the range of 50.4–93.6°. Such hydrophilic polyimide films can be used as polymer electrolytes in ion conduction applications and batteries.

Mr. P. H. Salunkhe is currently working as a Ph.D student at department of polymer chemistry school of chemical sciences, solapur university, solapur. His research in different fields of polymer science and material science was published over 12 publications in international journals. He has participated in several international conferences and presented poster and oral presentations. He is also involved in research project sanctioned by University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

Mr. Y. S. Patil received his Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree from school of chemical sciences, solapur university, solapur, Maharashtra, India in 2013. Now, he is currently working towards the Ph.D. degree in solapur university, solapur, Maharashtra, India. He is engaged in the synthesis and characterization of high performance polymers for gas sensing application.

V. N. Kadam

Dr. V. N. Kadam received his Ph.D degree from school of chemical sciences, solapur university, solapur. Currently working as a Head, department of chemistry, baburao patil college of arts and science angar. His area of research is high performance polymers, synthesis, characterization and applications.

S. S. Ankushrao

Dr. S. S. Ankushrao received his Ph.D degree from school of chemical science, solapur university, solapur, Maharashtra, India. Currently he is working as an Assistant Professor in chemistry at Vivekanand college, kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. His area of research is high performance polymers, synthesis, characterization and applications.

V. P. Ubale

Dr. V. N. Kadam received his Ph.D degree from school of chemical sciences, solapur university, solapur. Currently working as a Head, department of chemistry, baburao patil college of arts and science angar. His area of research is high performance polymers, synthesis, characterization and applications.

A. A. Ghanwat

Dr. A. A. Ghanwat obtained his M.Sc. degree in Chemistry from Shivaji University, Kolhapur followed by MPhil degree from Sivaji University, and PhD degree in Polymer Chemistry from the School of Chemical Sciences, Solapur University, Solapur, Maharashtra, India. He is currently working as  Associate Professor in the Department of Polymer Chemistry, Solapur University, Solapur. He has about eighteen years of teaching and 12 years of research experience. Currently, he is guiding 9 PhD students working on wide range of research topics. His research interest is mainly focussed on the synthesis and characterization of high performance polymers for various applications such as energy storage, sensors etc., He has published many research articles in the peer reviewed international journals. In addition, he has been serving as a reviewer for several international journals.
