Advance Nanocomposites from Biopolymers and Fillers: Sources, Characterization, and End-Use Applications

Pages 570-604 | Received 23 Aug 2023, Accepted 11 Dec 2023, Published online: 26 Dec 2023

ABSTRACT

Advance nanocomposites, also known as bionanocomposites/biopolymer composites or bionanomaterials, have gained desirable attention in the area of scientific and technological advancement, premised on the need for eco-friendly and sustainable biopolymer-based nanocomposites, unlike the non-biodegradable petroleum-based nanocomposites. Analytical instrumental techniques such as FTIR, SEM-EDX, XRD, DLS, DMA, and TGA have been recounted to be effective in characterizing bionanocomposites in order to determine their properties and envisage their practical applications. Advance nanocomposite has found practical applications in food packaging for preserving and extending the shelf life of food products, in addition to biomedical operation as well as water treatment, sensors, and electronic devices. The contribution impact of bionanocomposite in the field of material science has springed up a desirable outcome in reducing the overdependence of petroleum-based nanocomposites.
