Paradigm Clash: Empirically Supported Treatments Versus Empirically Supported Psychotherapy Practice

Pages 488-493 | Published online: 23 Apr 2010

Abstract

Lampropoulos argues that the concerns of opponents of empirically supported treatments (ESTs) can be addressed within the EST format. While this may be partially true, it does not address underlying paradigmatic concerns. I discuss paradigmatic differences and the Dodo verdict, and present an alternative to the EST paradigm. I argue that there are science-based forms of practice outside of the EST paradigm.
