Sign Tests when Observations are Correlated: A simulation study

This paper reports a simulation study to give a pedagogical demonstration of the robustness of the sign test frequently applied to examine group differences as measured by multiple indicators where observations are intercorrelated. Our findings show that modest intercorrelations only to a limited degree influence the ability to detect type I errors, while high intercorrelations between observations make use of the sign test very doubtful.
