Photoelastic Calibration of Orthotropic Model Materials

Pages 429-433 | Published online: 03 Dec 2010

Abstract

An orthotropic photoelastic model material is characterized by four elastic constants and three photoelastic constants. While a number of methods are available for measuring the elastic constants, not much attention has been given to the determination of the photoelastic constants. This paper reviews the various methods of determining the photoelastic sensitivity of composite model materials and proposes an optimum method.
