Abstract
A numerical procedure is proposed to calculate conjugate viscous flows about and inside single bubbles. Using a body-fitted mesh with multiblock and TVD-type treatment, conjugate flows on both sides of a bubble surface can be calculated. A "continuous stress method" is proposed to obtain interfacial velocities from the continuity of tangential stress. Calculations are carried out for spherical bubbles in the range of 10 h Re (2) h 550 and for deformable air bubbles rising in water in the ranges of (Re (2) , We )=[0, 200] 2 [0, 6]. A comparison between the present conjugate model and Ryskin and Leal's [1, 2] "external flow model" for a single bubble is made.
