Abstract
A new ironmaking process is required for the reduction of CO2 emission and energy consumption. One of the most effective factors of environmental conservation is to lower temperature and shorten time in the ironmaking process. Therefore, the carburization and melting stage of iron, which are essential processes in ironmaking, has been discussed. The important factors are the realization of direct contact between reduced iron and solid carbonaceous materials and the rapid separation of pig iron from molten slag.
