Sable Hunting in Eastern Siberia in the Early 18th Century

The writer, an apprentice naturalist in Vitus Bering's Second Kamchatka Expedition and the author of a classic account of Kamchatka, describes the organization, logistics, techniques, and superstitions of Russian (mainly) and native (Tungus and Yakut) sable hunting on the lower reaches of the Vitim River in the middle 1730s.
