Pages 3-16 | Published online: 29 Jul 2009

Abstract

Due to the lack of precise definitions of “team” approach with the developmentally delayed population, clarification the term is necessary. This is provided by a review of the literature and by use of Jantsch's schema on disciplinarily. In this hierarchal plan, Jantsch considers the transdisiplinary (TD) approach the most advanced method for coordinating disciplines. To describe TD in more detail, one example of this approach is discussed with emphasis on continuing education, parent involvement, and accountability. Advantages and disadvantages of such an approach are indicated with future challenges presented in regard to the developmentally delayed child/ parent unit.
