Abstract

This paper describes the methodology used for a kinematic study of human fetal shoulder movements in utero. The data obtained in routine ultrasound examinations was recorded on videotape for repeated playback and motion analysis. Preliminary findings are presented for four subjects, one of whom may have experienced less than optimal conditions in utero. Findings were charted on a Fetal Movement Time Line, and are discussed in relation to normal motor development.
