Logistics of data acquisition in tropical, rugged terrain – the airborne geophysical surveys of the PNG highlands and Papuan Peninsula

, &

Summary

In three flying season between 2005 to 2008 two areas of the PNG highlands and the Papuan Peninsula have been surveyed by what was possibly the world’s largest helicopter magnetic and radiometric survey. The project was conducted by the Mineral Resources Authority and funded under the EEC’s 8th EDF (European Development Fund). The availability of these data in both digital and paper-map formats is expected to encourage and facilitate exploration in PNG by international mining companies.
