ABSTRACT

Concentration of lead, cadmium, copper and zinc in seminal plasma and blood serum collected from fertile and infertile men (30 + 30) were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The mean blood and seminal plasma concentrations of lead, cadmium, copper and zinc were within the normal values. The blood concentration of lead, cadmium, copper and zinc were 64.15 ± 21.4 µg/L, 0.16 ± 0.08 µg/L, 106.9 ± 83.5 µg/L, 212.9 ± 138.6 µg/L in fertile men and 65.08 ± 21.6 µg/L, 0.30 ± 0.15 µg/L, 203.3 ± 129.6 µg/L and 75.5 ± 13.3 µg/L in infertile men, respectively. The seminal plasma concentrations of these metals were 62.86 ± 26.1µg/L, 0.67 ± 0.09 µg/L, 105.6 ± 94.8 µg/L and 130.6 ± 107.4 µg/L in fertile men and 63.14 ± 33.4 µg/L, 0.74 ± 0.3 µg/L, 177.7 ± 165.3 µg/L and 83.02 ± 28.5 µg/L in infertile men, respectively. Blank values were very low and detection limits (3σ) were found for each analysis.
