Studies on the Interaction of Enoxacin, Fe(III), and DNA by Spectral Methods

Abstract

The interactions of ENX (enoxacin), Fe(III) and DNA were studied by the methods of fluorescence and UV spectra. Fe(III) and DNA can quench the fluorescence intensity of ENX at a maximum emission wavelength of 400 nm by static quenching respectively. The compositions of ENX–Fe(III) and ENX–DNA were determined by a fluorescence method. The spectral changes of the ENX–Fe(III) binary complex in the presence of DNA indicate that a ternary complex ENX–Fe(III)–DNA was formed. Natural DNA can be determined by ENX–Fe(III) binary complex interacting with DNA concentration of 1.0 × 10−5 to 1.83 × 10−4 mol/L. The optimum reaction conditions were discussed and further confirmed the mechanism of the interaction among ENX, Fe(III) and DNA, which is important for understanding the mechanism of interaction of ENX and DNA.
