Abstract

Au nanoparticles exhibit excellent compatibility with biomolecules and some distinct optical properties. Their two popular features, the color change upon aggregation and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) enhancement, have been exploited in analytical chemistry, biosensing platforms, and immunoassays. The preparation of monodispersed Au nanoparticles with improved electronic, optical, and chemical properties is still an on-going and formidable task. This review aims to outline the most significant and recent progress towards the utilization of gold nanoparticles in biosensing.
