Abstract

The mechanical and corrosion characteristics of Al 6092-20 SiC have been investigated. Al 6092-20 SiC shows an excellent combination of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in highly corrosive Arabian seawater. The microanalytical studies suggest that the preferred site for localized corrosion is the Al 6092–SiC interface, which has an abundant population of intermetallics.
