A model of vertical distribution for Pensacola bahiagrass*

Pages 1901-1908 | Published online: 05 Feb 2007

Abstract

A simple mathematical model has been used to describe the vertical distribution of plant dry matter for Pensacola bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum Flügge). Data from the literature are used to illustrate the model. The model contains two parameters, one related to mass density at ground level and the other to height above ground. Both model parameters are functions of time interval between harvests. Integration of the distribution function gives an estimate of total mass above ground level. Vertical distribution is particularly important to efficiency of harvesting in hay operations.
