MAGNETIC BIOSTIMULATION OF INITIAL GROWTH STAGES OF WHEAT (TRITICUM AESTIVUM, L.)

Abstract

The effect of magnetic treatment on the initial growth stages of wheat was explored under controlled conditions. Treatment involved the application of different magnetic doses (D) established in terms of the magnetic field energy density (ρm1=6217 or ρm2=24,868 J/m3), and the time of exposure (0 min, 1 min, 10 min, 20 min, 1 hr, 24 hr, or chronic exposure). Increased plant height was observed as the magnetic dose increased, with significant differences recorded for most doses. The stimulatory effect found for ρm2, greater than that obtained for ρm1, may be related to the amount of energy supplied to the plant tissues by the magnetic field. Chronic exposure of plants provided maximum total length increases of 7.3% (ρm1) and 30.9% (ρm2), corresponding to total weight increases of 17.6% and 29.9%, respectively.
