THE EUROPEAN UNION: MODEL FOR THE WORLD

Pages 91-94 | Published online: 19 Aug 2006

Abstract

One of the most important of the changes occurring in the field of GLBT public policy involves the European Community, where certain basic human rights expectations have been mandated for all participating countries. Almost as important is the fact that countries which wish to gain the economic advantages of entering the European Community must comply with its human rights requirements, which means that countries which would otherwise never have granted gay rights now must do so.
