Abstract
Effect of urethane based bonding agent on the cure characteristics and mechanical properties of natural rubber/whole tyre reclaim–short nylon fiber composite have been studied. Tensile strength, tear strength, elongation at break, and heat build-up were studied in both orientations of the fibers. The processability as indicated by the minimum torque of the composite was affected adversely by the presence of 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate/polyethylene glycol resin. Tensile strength and tear strength showed an improvement at a higher isocynate concentration. Compression set showed a reduction with increase in the isocyanate concentration. Heat build-up showed a reduction in presence of a bonding agent.
