Abstract

N-Cyclohexylmaleimide-containing graft-type ACS resins were synthesized by suspension polymerization. The affects of monomer mixture composition on the graft efficiency, glass transition temperature (T g ), Vicat softening point, mechanical properties, and rheological behavior of the copolymers were investigated. The results show that the graft efficiency increased with the increasing content of N-cyclohexylmaleimide (ChMI). The T g and Vicat softening point of the copolymers increased with increasing ChMI moieties in the copolymer. The mechanical properties (impact strength and tensile strength) have maximum values when the ChMI is in certain content. The apparent viscosity, η a , increased with the increasing content of ChMI and the melt is a pseudoplastic liquid. The nonNewtonian parameter-flow power n increased because of the incorporation of the ChMI unit. The comprehensive properties were the best at the 15%–20% ChMI content in ACS resin.
