Synthesis of 1-(N-Alkylidene or Benzylideneamino)-1,6-dihydro-2-methylthio-6-oxo-pyrimidine from Meldrum's Acid Derivatives

Abstract

5-Ethoxymethylene-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione reacts with isothiosemicarbazone to afford 5-isothiosemicarbazone methylene 1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione (3). Thermolysis of 3 supplies a novel synthetic method of 1-(N-alkylidene or benzylideneamino)-1,6-dihydro-2-methylthio-6-pyrimidine in good to high yield.
