Abstract

1-(β-Hydroxyalkyl)benzoxazoles and 1-(β-hydroxyalkyl)benzothiazoles were prepared via reductive addition reactions of 2-chloromethylbenzoxazole and 2-chloromethylbenzothiazole with carbonyl compounds under mild conditions mediated by SmI2.
