Abstract

The phase behavior and phase composition of TBP-kerosene/ H3PO4-H2O three-phase extraction system have been "inves-tigated and compared with the two-phase system without the diluent. In TBP-kerosene/H3PO4-H2O system, the formation of the third phase is related only to the equilibrium concentration of H3PO4 in the bottom (aqueous) phase (CH3 PO4, b > 9.8 mol/L). The composition of the middle phase is not a function of only the CH3PO4, b, but also relates to the initial concentration of TBP. At CH3PO4 = 9.8 mol/L, the composition of the extracted complex in the middle phase is (TBP)·(H3PO4)·(H2O)0.5, which is the same as that of the organic phase in two-phase system.
