SYNTHESIS AND REACTIVITY OF SOME FIRST-ROW TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES OF 2-THENOYLTRIFLUOROACETONE TOWARDS N,N-DIALKYL DITHIOCARBAMATE

ABSTRACT

Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(III) and Cr(III) chelates of 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) react at room temperature with the sodium salt of N,N-diethyldithiocarbamate (Et2dtcNa) to afford dithiocarbamato mixed-ligand complexes through replacement of one TTA ligand in each complex by one Et2dtc. Characterization of the prepared binary and mixed-ligand complexes was accomplished by elemental analyses, thermal data, electronic and IR spectroscopy as well as conductivity measurements. The stoichiometry of these complexes is M:TTA=1:2 and M:TTA:Et2dtc=1:1:1. Square-planar or tetrahedral structures are proposed for the divalent transition metal complexes, whereas, the trivalent transition metals were found to assume an octahedral geometry.
