Temporal association in a feed-forward framework: response to Amit's ‘What is and is not a theory of context correlations’

Abstract

This short paper is a response to a comment appearing in this issue of Network: Computation in Neural Systems by Daniel Amit. I address issues raised in Amit's commentary on an earlier article of mine, explaining where misunderstandings have arisen and tackling points of genuine contention. I go on to explain why my model presents a more physiologically complete and consistent picture of processing in the temporal lobe during the recognition of familiar objects and images.
