Commentary on E. Pichon Rivière's ‘The Link and the Theory of the Three Ds (Depositant, Depository, and Deposited): Role and Status’

Notes

1. In my discussion I will use the Spanish vinculo in preference to ‘link’ or other English translations. Pichon introduced vinculo as a unique term and concept, and the term continues to be widely used in Latin American psychoanalysis, and especially in the thinking of the Rio de la Plata region. Because any translation into English has its own connotations (‘link,’ for example, inevitably brings Bion's ideas to mind) I prefer to use the original word and to allow its meanings to develop in the course of discussing it (see Greenberg, Citation2012).
