Notes

1.a.  Formal optometric courses were started in the 1920s and until the 1960s there were courses in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. The South Australian course closed in 1965 and the Western Australian course closed in 1969 because they were part‐time certificate courses run by the boards. They were no longer commensurate with the NSW and Victorian courses, which were full‐time and had achieved degree status, and the Queensland course, which was then a three‐year full‐time diploma course in the Queensland Institute of Technology.
