THE BIMODAL WARM SEASON PRECIPITATION PROFILE OF THE UPPER MIDDLE WEST

Pages 566-571 | Published online: 15 Mar 2010

ABSTRACT

An unusual climatic feature of interior Anglo-America, and more specifically the Upper Middle West, is the bimodal character of its average annual rainfall profile during the warm season. One peak commonly is in June and a second one in September; July and August show some waning. The proportion of precipitation gauging stations with this bimodal warm-season maximum has declined in recent years, although the general pattern of bimodality persists.
