1 Honours degree in archaeology and Latin and a Certificate of Education at Southampton University. Worked in the Ashmolean Museum Library, Oxford, as an archivist and at the Institute of Archaeology in Oxford as a research and publications assistant on a number of major excavation programmes in England. In 1975 became Research Assistant in European Archaeology at the University of Oxford. Assistant Keeper of Archaeology for the Lincolnshire County Museum Service, 1977. Now Deputy Director of the Council for Museums and Galleries in Scotland. Has written a number of articles on Romano–British archaeology and museology and contributed to a number of books.
