The self in and out of time

Pages 395-404 | Published online: 31 Dec 2017

Notes

1. The question then is how to think about the origin of the subjective sense of time (and its passage) against the background of the time of the unconscious, a time that does not pass. In Chapter 2 of his book, Meissner opted for a developmental description. I have tried to give a metapsychological account of that origin (CitationScarfone, 2006).

2. It is worth remembering that, in Freud’s idea of the unconscious, time but also negation and the idea of death are declared missing.
