ABSTRACT:
In this informal article, Ross White reflects on why initial teacher training is not only relevant, but may also be considered essential, in modern veterinary practice. Drawing on his years of experience teaching on the Veterinary Nurse Scheme and delivering initial teacher training, he has observed a convergence.

Ross qualified in 1994 when working in a mixed practice in Oxfordshire. He moved on to the Beaumont Animals Hospital (RVC) in Camden where he gained his Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Surgical) in 1999. Whilst teaching nursing at the Berkshire College, Ross passed his teaching and verification qualifications and now enjoys teaching veterinary nurses at Warwickshire College and delivering initial teacher training. Ross is currently working towards his Masters Degree in Education.
