Abstract
New copolyether sulfones containing bis(p-oxo-benzylidene)cycloalkanone, 1,1-bis(p-oxo-phenyl)cycloalkane, and 2,2-bis(p-oxo-phenyl)propane moieties were prepared in the conventional literature manner by condensing the dipotassium salts of bis(p-hydroxy-benzylidene)cycloalkanone (IIa-IIc), 1,1-bis(p-hydroxy-phenyl)cycloalkane (VIIa-VIIc), and 2,2-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)propane (bisphenol A, III) with 4,4'-bis(chlorophenyl)sulfone (I) or by condensing the dipotassium salts of III an VIIb, VIIc with new dibenzylidene cycloalkanone macromers (VIb, VIc). The resulting copolyether sulfones were characterized by IR, 1H-NMR, elemental analysis, viscometry, solubility, softening points, DSC, and TGA measurements. The effects of the cycloalkanone ring size, isopropylidene, and 1,1-bis(p-oxo-phenyl)cycloalkane units on the properties of the polymers are discussed.
