Backscattering By a Dihedral Corner Reflector With Surface Deformations

Abstract

Aim of the paper is to analyze the electromagnetic scattering by a perfectly conducting dihedral corner with deformed faces. An accurate Physical Optics based model is developed to study the case in which only one face is deformed according to a parabolic law. It accounts also for the lighting of each face by the fields diffracted from the other one and is properly corrected to consider the contributions due to the monostatically diffracted fields. The hypothesized profile constitutes a first attempt to simulate the presence of mechanical deformations on the surface of corner reflectors working in realistic operative conditions. The effectiveness of such a model is verified by comparing its results with those obtained with a rigorous numerical technique. Such a Method of Moments technique is then applied to analyze the backscattering from dihedral corner reflectors with other one-dimensional surface deformations.
