Abstract
An accurate analysis of the rounded ends iris using the mode matching technique is presented. Stair steps are used to approximate the curved ends of the iris to simplify the modeling procedure. The characteristic equation of the iris can be obtained by matching the boundaries between the rectangular stair steps. By applying the cascading procedure, the reflection coefficient of the coupling structure can be obtained. From the phase variation of the reflection coefficient and circuit theory, resonant frequency and input/output coupling of the structure are accurately determined. The coupling by the iris between a rectangular waveguide and a resonator is calculated and compared to the approximate method. The results are also compared to the finite element method (HFSS) and shown to be in good agreement.
