Abstract

A new approach based on the integral equation method is formulated for the calculation of scattering from a finite planar perfectly conducting screen with a narrow slot. First, using equivalent magnetic currents the screen is short-circuited. This means that electric currents can flow over the entire screen - slot configuration. Together with the magnetic currents, these electric currents are considered as the fundamental unknowns of the problem. The final integral equations are thus obtained for the electric sheet currents flowing on the short-circuited screen and the magnetic sheet currents on the slot. In the procedure introduced no special basis functions are required to describe the rapidly varying electric current on the screen in the vicinity of the slot. This boosts the efficiency of the technique with respect to traditional techniques. Numerical results are presented and discussed.
