Abstract
A new approach to the design of series-fed printed arrays is proposed, taking into account both the mutual coupling between the patches and the patch-feedline interaction. This approach relies on a small set of design equations, describing in a concise way the array behaviour. Each patch, and the mutual coupling, is modelled using an accurate form of the transmission-line model. The model parameters, as well as the feed-structure ones, enter in the design equations thus allowing an effective array design. Both pencil-beam and shaped-beam aperture distributions can be synthesized. The presented approach has been validated using both Method of Moments simulations and experimental responses.
